Trauma

Feeling stuck by your past?

Going through something life-changing or traumatic is incredibly tough—but what’s even harder is realizing that, even after it’s over, you’re still not okay. Maybe you thought you’d be able to move on by now, but the memories keep popping up, and no matter how hard you try, it feels like you can’t shake it.

First of all, this is completely normal. Healing from trauma is messy, and it doesn’t follow a straight line. Most importantly, you don’t have to do it all on your own.
Second, trauma is on a spectrum. From experiencing traumatic events such as witnessing or experiencing life-threatening events (car accidents, natural disasters, sexual assault, domestic violence, sudden death of a loved one, childhood abuse and neglect, living in an environment with ongoing substance abuse, infidelity, divorce, phobias, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, etc.
No one goes through life unscathed, and we all have had some type of traumatic experience throughout our lives. It does not mean you are broken or damaged. You are not defined by your experiences.
Trauma doesn't always mean a person has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. However, if you do have the symptoms of PTSD, there isn't anything wrong with you and people DO get better. For others, they have ongoing trauma (CPTSD or complex PTSD) throughout their lives because of childhood experiences, abusive (physically, emotionally, verbally) relationships, etc.
At Meadow Creek Counseling, I provide a safe and secure environment to assist my clients in reducing the impact that trauma has on their daily lives. There are many tools I have in my toolbox. The tools I use are as follows:
EMDR (Eye Movement Densensitization and Reprocessing). I have attended the training and am currently receiving the required 10 consultation hours.
Emotion-Focused Therapy for individuals and couples
Somatic work
Trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy.
